HALDEX SERVICING

The Haldex 4WD system, found on transverse-mounted VAG 4-wheel-drive vehicles, consists of a Haldex clutch coupling and a rear final drive differential. Some performance 2WD models also feature a Haldex front differential, which operates in a similar way to deliver enhanced traction and handling.

Haldex ‘VAQ’ Front Differential

Haldex Coupling – A wet multi-plate clutch system operated by a fluid pump (Haldex Controller). Requires servicing every 20,000 miles with fresh Haldex oil and a new filter.

Rear Final Drive Differential – Provides drive to the rear wheels using lubricating gear oil. While considered “lifetime” by the manufacturer, many owners choose to replace it between 50,000–75,000 miles for preventative maintenance.
